I kicked off fall family sessions with this one for my sweet friends, the Harris’. We went to visit their family farm in Oskaloosa. After hanging out for the afternoon and catching up, we capped the evening off with an outdoor family session to capture their growing family of three.

Golden Hour Outdoor Iowa Family Session

When I photograph outdoors, I follow where the light leads. As a seasoned photographer, I’m comfortable shooting in any light, but the even, diffused light at golden hour is my favorite for outdoor family photos in Iowa. While I believe any light can be used beautifully, this lighting is my favorite because it flatters everyone in my families.

For the Harris’ session, once I saw the light was getting good, we made our way outside. Wrangling toddlers is tough, I know. There’s no pressure here for everyone to be perfect! I love to capture families in their element where they feel most comfortable. We got at least one great photo of everyone looking, then after that we just played!
