Family Photos at Home in Ames

As a family photographer, there are sessions that touch your heart in a special way. My time photographing the Boyd family’s home session in Ames, Iowa, was exactly that – a delightful blend of love, laughter, and genuine connections that unfolded within the walls of their home.

The Boyds have been friends of ours since we moved back to Ames in 2022. Jill was pregnant along with me for most of the past year. Near the end of our pregnancies, I reached out to her to see if they would be up for a home family session after we had our babies. Having known them for some time, I was thrilled to capture a glimpse into the heart of their family life.

The session began with warm autumn sun streaming through their windows. After a quick tour of their home, I brought them all together where the window light was best. As my camera clicked, I witnessed the unspoken bonds between parents and children. Both moments of laughter and quiet togetherness followed. My goal was to capture those simple moments authentically as they radiated from each family member.

Family Connection During Home Sessions

One of the highlights of the session was playing peek-a-boo with Macy as she twisted around the curtains. I also loved focusing on Jill and the sweet connection between mother and baby. Those sweet snuggles remind me of how it feels when I snuggle my own kids close. These are the moments that make family sessions so rewarding – capturing the love and connection unique to each family.

As the session concluded, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for being a part of such a heartwarming experience. The Boyd family’s genuine warmth and openness allowed me to capture not just photographs but a visual narrative of their love story. These photos freeze their genuine connections, creating timeless memories of this beautiful season they’ll cherish for a lifetime.
