I love when a couple is down for sneaking their engagement session in right before the seasons change. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing Olivia and Parker during their engagement session at Water Works Park in Des Moines, Iowa. There were just a few leaves still clinging to the trees, but they snuggled close and made the whole thing feel cozy.
When Olivia said she loves black and whites, it sealed for me just how much I love each of my couples. I get to create art with them. Her telling me how much she liked black and white photos freed me even more to be creative with their session.
Late fall in Iowa means a quick sunset. Sessions have to start early because once the sun starts to fade, it’s gone. We ventured towards downtown Des Moines for the second part of their session. At this point we can basically call the light “night.” All the city lights began to pop on while we were shooting. For our last stop, we got to where the city became a twinkling backdrop of lights.
My goal is always to capture the essence of each couple’s story. For Olivia and Parker I got the sense of a tender love. They were sweet and subtle with each other. I absolutely can’t wait to spend an entire day with them and meet their families next year.
