Squaw Creek Sunset Engagement

I have the joy of sharing a BEAUTIFUL engagement session with you today! It’s sessions like Debbie and Luke’s Squaw Creek Sunset Engagement that remind me why I absolutely love being a wedding and engagement photographer!

Debbie and Luke met while they were in college. While they dated, every month for a year, Luke wrote Debbie a poem. When he was ready to propose, Luke complied all of the poems into a book with an additional 13th poem. On the night he proposed, he gave Debbie the book. She read through the poems, ending with the newest poem she hadn’t read before. Her eyes scrolled down the page, reading the words of Luke’s proposal. After she finished reading, she gladly said “yes!” to becoming his wife! That little book now sits on their coffee table, telling a part of their story to guests in their home. I think if they have kids someday, they’ll cherish hearing that story and reading those poems forever!

I cannot get over how wonderful it was spending time with them at their engagement session! Debbie and Luke laughed and smiled the whole time! Not only were they one of the most joyful couples, but they dressed to impress! Debbie’s dress just had the prettiest little delicate detail, which I love!

These two drove all the way from West Des Moines for their engagement session at Squaw Creek Park in Marion. Debbie’s originally from the Cedar Rapids area, so it’s fun that they got to come back! The night was absolutely beautiful — we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather! Warm air filled the afternoon, but as the night came it cooled off a little bit with a slight breeze. Not a cloud in sight with bright sunny skies the perfect dreamy evening! It’s my favorite type of weather to shoot in!

Picking which photos to share for this blog post was SO hard!! Luke and Debbie have an undeniable joy that was so fun to photograph! Literally every single photo is a new favorite! I’m so excited I get to photograph them again next year on their wedding day at the beautiful Ashton Hill Farm!!
