Blush and Navy Barn on the Ridge Wedding

Hot sun beat down on the concrete pavers. Water trickled in the background while soft music played. He stood with a smile on his face. The Iowa heat far from his mind. He gazed up the stone amphitheater—waiting. The heavy wooden doors opened. Everybody looked.

Kyle’s second love descended the stairs. His two tiny hand grasping that of each of his grandmas. As he neared his father, he ran and embraced him. After hugging his son, Kyle straightened and returned his attention to the entrance. The moment was here. The audience rose in expectation. As the doors swung open again, Holly emerged. In all her glory she stepped into the sunlight, clinging to her father’s arm.

Before all their friends and family, Kyle and Holly exchanged vows. They planted a tree. And in the perfectly serene amphitheater of Barn on the Ridge, they became husband and wife. And me? I got to photograph it all.

I checked the weather app over and over the morning of Kyle and Holly’s wedding. Rain was a chance, but it looked as though we might have a tiny gap in the weather. As I drove to Burlington that day, the clouds parted and the sun began to shine! Whew, crisis averted! We were able to celebrate outdoors—my favorite!!

I’m pretty sure we covered all of Iowa’s summer weather extremes over the course of their wedding day. What started as blazing sun, turned into a torrential rainstorm (after everyone was safely indoors!). As the first dances were coming to a close, the rain subsided. Left in its place was the most stunning rainbow. We even made it outside fast enough to catch the rainbow for a few celebratory portraits! That was truly the perfect ending to an already perfect day.

Kyle and Holly, thank you for trusting me to capture your wedding day! I’m so thrilled to know you guys and watch you start your married life together! Kroy is one lucky boy to have two parents as awesome as you guys! I hope you had the best honeymoon and enjoyed ALL the wine! Your wedding was gorgeous (!!), but you have an even more beautiful future ahead of you! I’m so lucky to know you guys now and see just how far life takes you!
