Engagement Photos at Iris Aisle in Winterset

April 14, 2025

An engagement session to document this season of their life together was really important to Ben and Leah. Being a plant scientist, Leah wanted to feature plants and greenery — something not often seen in early Iowa spring — in their session. Together we carefully selected Iris Aisle in Winterset for their session. The glass greenhouse conservatory let in so much natural light. Plus, the giant plants inside gave us the greenery we were looking for.

I’ve been really diving in to my documentary photography work. Giving my couples a gallery of photos that are truly candid and tell their story is my goal. With Ben and Leah, it was so effortlessly natural to move myself around them. Letting them rely on each other in moments of awkwardness led to many naturally beautiful moments I never could have prompted.

I have a feeling their wedding later this year will be much the same — out in the garden, candidly documenting them enjoy their day with all their loved ones. I can’t picture a better way to enjoy your wedding day than fully experiencing it with your best friend. The photos will naturally come when you give yourself to experiencing and enjoying what’s happening all around you.
