There’s nothing quite like photographing friends. When Erin asked if I would take her and Matt’s 5 year anniversary photos, I barely took a breath before saying YES! I love, love, love working with couples and haven’t had the chance to photograph many anniversary sessions yet. It was a no-brainer for me! Erin and Matt’s winter anniversary session in Iowa City is super special to me! Keep reading to find out why 🙂
Joey and I first met Matt and Erin at our connection group from church when we were in college. We’d been married for barely a year and Matt and Erin were just a few months in to their marriage. They were some of the very first couple friends we had that were also married and in the same life-stage. When we graduated and Joey got a job that took us away from Ames, it was the hardest to leave behind the new friends we’d made.
Around that time, I was just starting my wedding photography business. Erin and I connected some over graphic design and I knew she had some interest in photography as well. Thanks to photography, I’ve been able to stay way closer with Erin as a friend than I ever thought possible. She second shoots weddings with me whenever she can and it is the most fun ever! She’s helpful, kind and so passionate about doing everything she does to the highest standard. On wedding days we get to nerd out over photography and it is so, so fun!
While planning their session, Erin and I texted back and forth about their outfit selection. She had a vision of cozy sweaters and velvet skirts that totally fit this winter season. Just to make sure it was exactly what she wanted, Erin even sent me a Photoshop screenshot she’d put together of her head on different outfit options paired together, which was THE BEST!! I can totally see myself doing the same thing to plan future sessions for our family!
Joey and I went to their session together, which is so fun for me! I love sharing what I do with him. This session is the second he’s been to with me and both times I think it makes the session even more fun!
Erin and Matt, thank you for your genuine friendship. Joey and I love having you guys as our friends! Spending time together means so much to us because you guys are so honest and joyful! It was an honor to celebrate your upcoming anniversary with this session! Every time we see you, it’s always that much harder to say goodbye. I’m thankful for our shared love of photography and the opportunities it gives us to see each other again and again throughout the year!
