As the last bit of autumn hung in the air during an abnormally warm November in Ames, Iowa, we were able to sneak in Abby and Josh’s engagement session. The air was crisp, and the last bits of golden hour sunlight cast a mesmerizing glow on the clouds.
Abby and Josh feel like old friends by now. I had the joy of capturing both of Abby’s older sister’s weddings, as well as Josh’s proposal to Abby! Their family is dear to me and every interaction with them is a true blessing.
Their session was a race against time, once daylight savings hits at the beginning of November, The sun sinks quickly! Abby and I went back and forth over text all day when the weather initially started overcast and dreary. We had planned to wait for another day, but once I saw that the clouds had dissipated and the sun was shining through the trees, we both knew it wasn’t a night we couldn’t miss!
As the sun dipped lower on the horizon, we seized the opportunity to capture their silhouettes against the fading light and cotton-candy-colored clouds. Every second of shooting their session was a second of valuable sunlight. Even in the rush, we were able to capture glimpses at the love they feel for each other. Engagement sessions are all about preserving this short chapter in your story as you enter into a new a new beginning together — we were able to capture exactly that!
